Triple i 2017

O’er thee, Misfortune, I have ceased to wail,
I’ll utter no reproaches any more.
Thank God, I’m used to griefs thou hast in store
And to the sufferings in life’s strong jail.

No burden can now hurt my shoulders frail;
My lips are used to bitter drinks of yore;
My feet, like leather, are no longer sore,
I dread no thorny path, no irksome trail.

Stiff are my limbs and joints as if confined.
My heart, once sensitive, is hard as stone,
The claims of sorrow have subdued my mind.

All fear is fled; with it all hopes have flown.
Should Fate caress or beat me, it will find
Insensibility of flesh and bone.

 logo - triple i in suicidology

1st – 2nd June 2017, Piran (Slovenia)

We are pleased to invite you to the 8th TRIPLE i conference: intuition, imagination and innovation in suicidology, which will be held from 1st to 2nd June 2017 in the charming seaside town of Piran (Slovenia).

TRIPLE i is an international annual conference organised by the Slovene Centre for Suicide Research (Andrej Marušič Institute, University of Primorska, Slovenia) in memory of the late Prof. Andrej Marušič (around the time of his birthday) with the aim of promoting intuition, imagination and innovation in research and prevention of suicide and suicidal behaviour.

During the last years the conference has connected many people in the field of suicide research and prevention. The conference has developed into a platform for fruitful discussion between distinguished experts, interacting with young and perspective suicidologists or other eager professionals in the field.

The programme includes topics of suicide research and clinical work with suicidal patients and thus we will address theory, research, prevention and interventions in suicidology. Speakers will have more time than in usual conferences to present their experiences and participants will be invited to share their views. Existing difficulties in both research and clinical work will be specifically addressed.

Students, professionals, scholars, practitioners or others interested in the topic of suicidal behaviours from different fields and different parts of the world are invited to join the conference. Let the TRIPLE i be the opportunity to express and practice your intuition, imagination and innovative ideas.

Prijazno vabljeni!

Warm welcome!

You can find more information about tourist attractions in Slovenia, and specifically Piran and Portorož on the web page of the Official Travel Guide by Slovenian Tourist Board, in their Istria Slovenia publication, and on the web page of the Tourist Board of Portorose and Piran.

When is the event happening?

The 8th TRIPLE i: 1st – 2nd June 2017

The dates of the conference are in late spring – around the time of late Prof. Andrej Marušič’s birthday. Also, this is the time of the year when the weather at the Slovene coastal area is usually quite spectacular (air temperatures around 20 and water temperatures around 18 degrees).

What is the programme like?

Both days of the conference the programme will be held from 9 am to 6 pm. Lectures, workshops, symposiums or short presentations sessions will be 90 minutes long and they will include enough time for in-depth discussions between presenters and the audience. Different questions regarding research and prevention in suicidology will be addressed.

Distinguished international experts in the field of suicide research and prevention will present topics at the conference. At the moment confirmed speakers are Prof. Brian MisharaDr. Alexandra Fleischmann and Dr. Lisa Marzano.

The novelty of this year’s Triple i conference is a half-day training (lecture and workshop with the author and SCSR team) on using the STARS – Screening Tool for Assessing Risk of Suicide (Authors: Jacinta Hawgood and Diego De Leo; published by Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention). Attendance is a unique opportunity for practitioners to master the use of this new tool. Participants will receive a STARS certificate.

In light of the recent extensive media portrayals of suicide (writing the essay with the title Suicide as an exit from the wheels of the system as a part of the final exams; the series 13 reasons why), we decided to dedicate time in the conference programme to these currently relevant topics. They will be addressed in the form of a roundtable and a workshop, which will be open to journalists and mental health professionals working with adolescents.
