Čuječnost je nenavezanost in neprizadevanje

(Thich Nhat Hanh: Mir v vsakem koraku)

Poskusite

Mindfulness is letting go and non-striving

You only lose what you cling to.

(Buddha)

In meditation practice we try to notice attachment to certain aspects of our experience and act differently – to cultivate non-attachment. Unlike nearly everything else we do in life, the essence of meditation is that we don’t strive for any goal. We invest work and energy in meditation; however meditation in its essence is not-doing, which has no other goal than to be what we are.

The essence of meditation is the path, not the goal

While we practice walking meditation, we do not try to arrive anywhere. We only make peaceful, happy steps. If we keep thinking of the future, of what we want to realize, we will lose our steps. The same is true with sitting meditation. We sit just to enjoy our sitting; we do not sit in order to attain any goal. This is quite important. Each moment of sitting meditation brings us back to life, and we should sit in a way that we enjoy our sitting for the entire time we do it. Whether we are eating a tangerine, drinking a cup of tea, or walking in meditation, we should do it in a way that is “aimless.”

(Thich Nhat Hanh: Peace is Every Step)

Try it

Go for a mindful walk or engage in some other pleasant activity. Bring your attention to what is going on in your surroundings and within yourself.

Constantly keep in mind the mindful attitude that you don’t perform the chosen activity to achieve any goal, but only because of the activity itself. Your purpose is not to do something, but only to be.

Withdrawal from the tendency to do or achieve something and engaging in activities, which emphasize our merely being, is an important aspect of strengthening and cultivating mindfulness.
